From Muna and Broad:
The Kapunda Undies [pronounced like Cap-unde (as in undah-niable)] are super high-rise undies designed specifically to fit large bodies.
They feature a fully enclosed gusset, full coverage, and an easy and comfortable elastic application. View B has a side panel and is perfect for colour-blocking or scrap-busting and View C features an elastic lace finish. This pattern is suitable for sewing on a home sewing machine and doesn't require a serger/overlocker. The illustrated instructions give directions for sewing the undies using the zigzag stitch function on your machine!
Alternatively, you can use serger/overlocker for the seams, but you will also need to use a zigzag stitch to apply the elastic and finish the gusset.
Elastic Application: We have you apply the elastic 'straight off the roll', so you don't cut the elastic for your waistband and leg holes prior to sewing it on.
SUGGESTED FABRIC: This pattern is designed for use with 4-way stretch fabrics. Stretch and recovery should be equal in both the horizontal and vertical directions. Suggested fabrics are: cotton/spandex, bamboo/spandex, merino/spandex. You can also make these undies in 2-way stretch fabrics as long as there is significant horizontal stretch, however they will have the tendency to stretch out through the day. Examples of these fabrics would include cotton jersey, merino jersey.
