From Paradise Patterns:
The Protea Pant is a modern trouser with chic front pleats, sweeping pant legs, and a curved waistband. It offers two ways of sewing the waistband. The first way is better for light-to midweight fabrics, and if you like the look of topstitching. The second method is for mid-to heavyweight fabrics, or if you like a clean, more traditional trouser waistband. View A has pleats in front, View B has a flat front. This pattern will teach you some fun techniques including:
- An easy zipper fly
- Your choice of top-stitched or clean-finish waistband
- A special technique to keep the pleats folded
- In-seam pockets
View A features:
- High-waisted
- Full-length pant leg
- Curved waistband
- Zipper fly
- In-seam side pockets that connect to Center Front
- Fitted by waist, loose hip and very loose thighs
- Optional top-stitching
- Belt loops
View B features: Same as View A except for a flat front, no pleats.
Recommended Fabrics: These trousers will have a completely different look depending on the fabric you choose, but I do recommend something with a good drape and also something that doesn’t grow as you work with it or wear it. A light, drapey fabric will look lovely and flowy. A mid-weight cotton/linen will look so relaxed and cool. Or you can choose a mid-to heavyweight for a chic winter pant. You won’t need pocket lining fabric or pocket facing if using lightweight fabric, in that case you can use your main fabric. (Rayon/Tencel/Lyocell twill, challis or crepe, Linen, Linen blend, Cotton, light to heavy Wool, Corduroy, Denim, Silk, Satin)
